The People Around Me

Ever since I was a little girl I have been blessed with being surrounded by some pretty amazing people (you know who you are). So this one goes out to you, to the friends who have been with me through the worst of times, the best of times and the funniest of times. And to the family members that never stopped believing in me and always gave me the strength to go on even when I felt like giving up.

There is an African Proverb that says “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” I can’t stress the importance of this Proverb enough because the people you decided to surround yourself with are the ones who hold a lot of influence on some of the decisions you make in your life. Let’s face it, life gets HARD. Life can knock you down so hard sometimes you wonder if it’s even worth getting back up and fighting again. This is where the people around me come in. I’ve doubted myself quite a few times (actually quite a lot), I doubt some of the decisions I make and some of the actions that I have done. Nobody is perfect (especially me), but I thank every one of my friends and family members that helped me through ANY bad moment in my life and helped me laugh through them and find the good in any situation.

So I am writing this to you guys because well life is pretty good right now. I am happy with where I am right now and I am working on where I want to be in the future. And whether or not we speak every day or keep in contact as much as we used to, you influenced my life in so many different ways and I am beyond grateful for that. A lot of people come into your life and a lot of people go but the people around me have taught me to love, they have taught me laughter, they have taught me what it means to be genuinely happy. I hope everyone understands how much of a role you can play in somebody else’s life. So whenever you meet someone new treat them with kindness and to the people who are around you constantly and help you, let them know how thankful you are for them.

We are only human and I believe that no matter how old we get we all deep down are big babies inside and we just want to know that we are appreciated, we all want to know that we are cared for but we have to be willing to do the same. I challenge you after reading this to thank someone who you feel very fondly about and who has done so much for you. Let them know what they mean to you. You may do this or you may not (that’s up to you). But one thing is for sure I hope you all surround yourself with nothing but great people who brighten your days when they are dark and who make you laugh when you want to cry.
